  • HOTEL KEY CARDS - A WARNING TO ALL.

OK, this has nothing to do with bowling or our Club, but it seemed a good idea to share it with our readers. It's a copy of an e-mail I received from a friend.

  • COACHING MORNINGS AND CLUB NIGHTS.

They both kick off on Monday 11th May.

  • DON’T ASK ME WHO WON.

I am however advised it was one rink each.
  • PANCAKE PERFECTION.

Though I would have liked more chilli on mine.
  • I FEEL SO MUCH BETTER NOW.

    WHY?
  • UNIFICATION – THE ROAD SHOW.

Unification? Oh come on, where have you been hiding? Bowls England is a unified governing body for both men and women. Now the County is catching up and it’s giving you a chance to comment on the process.
  • WHY’S THAT ON OUR WEBSITE?

Now that’s just got to pique your interest.
  • ARE YOU ONE OF THOSE NOT LOOKING?

Not looking at what? Open up and you’ll see.

  • KEYNSHAM BOWLING CLUB DEVELOPMENT PLAN.

This is mainly for Club Members, but don’t let that put you off opening it up.
  • CLUB MEMBERS PLEASE NOTE ................

......... THERE IS A NEW FEATURE WITHIN "EVENTS & FIXTURES".
  • 23RD DECEMBER………………………

………………AND I’M CLOSING DOWN FOR A FEW DAYS, BUT BEFORE I DO, I’D LIKE TO WISH YOU ALL THE VERY BEST FOR 2009.
    BE WELL,
    DEL.
  • DO YOU REMEMBER “THE GENT FROM KENT”?

No, well go into “Archived News” and scroll down to 8th August 2007 to refresh your memory before you open this one.
  • WINTER WORK PROGRAMME.

It’s not really news, but I like to post something over the winter months and this might be of interest to some.
  • OH DEAR, MY MEMORY!

I nearly forgot to post this one and that really wouldn’t do. It’s important to record thanks when they are so deserved.
  • PROBLEMS WHEN YOU OPEN UP OUR BLOG?

Problems like the text tracking across a couple of pages so it can only be read by scrolling right and left for each line, or the instruction “submit your comment” not appearing in the bar below your new comment, or ……………..
  • ANNUAL DINNER/DANCE.

It still has its following, in spite of the changes, or was it because of the changes?
  • SOME INDOOR BOWLING NEWS.

    Yes, really, indoor bowling.
  • SOMETHING NEW ON OUR WEBSITE.

With bowling or Club news a bit thin on the ground over the winter, I thought I’d try something new this year.
  • IN MEMORIUM.

    A farewell to David Evans.
  • ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING 2008.

The morning of Saturday 8th November saw 69 Club Members assembling in the Clubhouse for this year’s Annual General Meeting and a further 24 had even sent apologies.
  • A BIT LATE.

    But better that than never.
  • AGM NOTICES.

    Chairs need setting out too.
  • WHERE DO SWALLOWS GO IN THE WINTER?

Or come to that, outdoor bowlers?
  • AN EVENING OF REVELATION.

And we thought it was just going to be a quiz night.
  • THIS IS NOT A PARTY POLITICAL ITEM.

It is however an item on how those claiming to be local politicians make decisions that impact on us as a Club. You might like to open this one up; the example is of current interest to many of our members and indeed some of our other readers who are also users of Keynsham Memorial Park.
  • THAT TRIPLES LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP.

Some more detail for those who like figures.
  • VOLUNTEERS WELCOME.

Where? At the Club. When? 9.30am every Monday. Why? Open up and find out.
  • THE SUN SHONE, THE PIG DID WELL AND WE EAT WELL.

That takes some working out, doesn’t it?
  • A HUGE ROUND OF APPLAUSE PLEASE.

    WHO FOR?
  • A BIT OF A SURPRISE.

It sort of crept up on us without us noticing.
  • AGM 2007 – A COMMENT?

    Confused? So was I.
  • BEDFORD TOUR 2009.

A little premature to be thinking about next September? I don’t think so.
  • WHAT A SMASHING TASTER!

The initiative was the Town Council’s, but on the back of it, we did very well.
  • PEMBROKESHIRE TOUR.

I’ve been on tour this last week, hence no postings. But I’m back with my recollections of tour. Hopefully other tourists will add their “comments”.
  • WHAT WAS I THINKING?

    Bob has put me right.
  • IT’S OUT OF OUR HANDS.

The “A” team are biting their nails.
  • CLUB FINALS DAY; Part II.

Sorry this didn’t get posted earlier, but here’s the running order for Sunday 31st August.
  • TOTAL EMBARRASSMENT ……………………

………………….. as the “C” team show the “B” team how to do it.
  • CLUB FINALS DAY Part I: RESULTS.

Photos as well! They’re on the FlickR Gallery; go to "Images" below and click on Ann’s picture.
  • GOING UP;

    GOING UP; GOING UP!
  • A BIGGER MARGIN THAN LAST YEAR ………………

    ……………and on their green!
  • THIS IS WORTH A NEW POSTING ………………

………..AND IT’S GETTING EVEN MORE SPOOKY!
  • CLUB FINALS DAY Part I.

The programme for our first Finals Day on Sunday 17th August.
  • A CLOSE SHAVE!

This looks like a moral victory to me.
  • CHAMPIONS!

Yes, Champions! What’s more we’ve got a champion lass!
  • SPOOKY!

Stay with me on this one. There is a bowling connection.
  • OK, IT WAS A LITTLE WET, BUT ……………

……………….. it didn’t stop our men.
  • IT TOOK A WHILE …………….

……………… but now we know who those shrinking violets were.
  • RESULTS?

    What results?
  • SUCH SHY, MODEST LITTLE FLOWERS.

    Who is?
  • THEY KEPT THIS ONE QUIET.

Probably to avoid the extra pressure of massed ranks of spectators.
  • RESULTS w/e 26th July 2008.

Yet again it’s not a full list. Even the Ladies didn’t get all theirs in, but some of the men’s team captains really are a bit slow on the uptake. So, if anyone who played in the games I haven’t got results for wants to add the results by adding a “comment”, I’d be most grateful.
  • KEYNSHAM TOWN COUNCIL GRANT.

How much and how was it used?
  • STILL LOOKING GOOD.

    You know where, don’t you?
  • THERE’S MORE TO US THAN BOWLING.

We’re an integral part of Keynsham Memorial Park and take great pride in its latest success.
  • BRILLIANT, JUST MARVELLOUS.

I can’t say how delighted I am to post this one.
  • WE’RE LOOKING GOOD ………….

……………. in the Somerset County League.
  • IT MUST HAVE BEEN THE RAIN.

We really are fine weather bowlers.
  • ANOTHER GOLDEN ANNIVERSARY.

Last year the Club celebrated its Golden Jubilee, today it’s another Golden Day.
  • SOMERSET LADIES ON THEIR WAY ……

    ……….. TO LEAMINGTON.
  • THIS ONE’S JUST FOR ……………

    ……………… KEYNSHAM LADIES.
  • FINALISTS.

It was our Ladies’ Two-Wood day yesterday.
  • BE THERE.

    WHERE?
  • OUT, BUT NOT DOWN.

The end of one trail, but there’s still hope.
  • RESULTS w/e 12th July 2008.

Unbelievable; I’ve got a full set. Though it has to be recognised this was a week hit badly by the rain.
  • WHOOPEE!

They did it and we’ve got pictures.
  • WHOSE GRIP?

    O.K. Here’s a challenge for you all.
  • SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT.

Have you, like me, had invasive heart surgery, keyhole surgery, a stent or new valve put in, or even had a pacemaker fitted? Do you know someone who has? You might like to read about Zippers Bowling Association.
  • IT’S THAT GIRL AGAIN!

    Which one?
  • YOUR FINAL REMINDER.

Our Ladies embark upon their Fear Cup campaign 2008. Friday 11th July at 2.15pm on our green. Be there! Give our Ladies your support!
  • RESULTS w/e 5th July 2008.

I’m still not getting all the results in, but as the ladies are getting all theirs in I’m determined to post this as the week ends.
  • A SPECTATOR FROM SPAIN ………….

……… turned up to watch our Triples League game.
  • ANGELA AND JOAN.

    Flying the flag again.
  • EVERYONE’S A CRITIC.

A couple of drinks in the bar and they all become experts!
  • RESULTS w/e 28th June 2008.

Sorry, I’m still not completely up to speed with some of our results (I haven’t had time to chase our men’s team captains) but our ladies are getting their results through so I’m posting this for them.
  • I WAS IMPRESSED.

The date; Sunday 29th June. The time; about 3.30pm. The place; Paulton Bowling Club’s green. Who?
  • LLOYD TROPHY.

    Some smiles, some tears.
  • THAT TOOK ME BY SURPRISE.

We’re on line. Do click on the title above to open the full posting, there’s something new for you.
  • RESULTS w/e 21st June & FIXTURES w/e 5th July.

I’m still not getting all the results. Come on team captains! I’ll fill in the gaps as soon as I get the information.
  • SOUTH OXFORD BOWLING CLUB TOURISTS…………….

………… dropped in on Monday 23rd June on their way back from South Devon for their final game on tour.
  • SOME YOU WIN; SOME YOU LOSE.

Unfortunately in the three big games over the weekend it was two losses and just one win.
  • ANOTHER BUSY DAY COMING UP.

Monday 23rd June is the day in question.
  • DON’T MISS THIS.

Tomorrow, Saturday 21st June, at 10.30am, on our green, it’s a big one. It’s the County Quarter-Final of the National Top Club Competition for ladies, and our ladies take on a strong Bath squad, not an easy task. Come on down and give our ladies the support they deserve. They’ve done the Club and the Town proud in reaching this stage; let's show them how much we appreciate it. We wish our ladies the very best of luck.
  • RESULTS w/e 14th June & FIXTURES w/e 28th June 2008.

I’m sorry I don’t have all the results or all the scores, but if I don’t get this posted soon you won’t see the fixtures in time.
  • RAY PERCIVAL SHIELD.

Sunday 15th June may have been labelled Father’s Day by American retailers looking for a boost in a quiet season, but here it has a rather more special meaning.
  • FAREWELL WILL.

A few thoughts after Will Farrow’s funeral earlier today.
  • THAT LOOKS BETTER.

Having lost patience and given up in disgust with last night’s efforts to post a new RESULTS & FIXTURES page, I thought I’d try and edit out the gremlins in “Cute” this morning. Guess what, it worked. A slow process but it really did work. Who’s a clever boy then? Go back to the previous posting now and open up “read more” to find the results and fixtures in their usual format. Thanks for your patience. You’ve obviously got more than me.
  • RESULTS w/e 7th June & FIXTURES w/e 21st June 2008.

At last some results and fixtures. Sorry about the delay, but I'm still struggling with my new iMAC! I've just checked how this appears when you click on "read more". It's a disaster; all my time spent changing from bold to italics to plain and from black to red and the whole lot came out all the same. To top it all it's not even in my prefered font.
  • WE’RE BACK IN BUSINESS.

I bet you’ve been missing my usual postings, particularly the Results & Fixtures pages. Sorry, but we’ve just bought an iMAC to replace our old and ailing PC. This was not necessarily the best move we’ve ever made. In fact we’re still out of touch by e-mail. So, it’s fingers crossed, in the hopes I can transfer this “Word” draft through “Cute” onto our website. If it works I hope to bring you up to date with Club news over the next day or so.
  • WEDMORE PLATE.

At last one for our men to crow about.
  • WALKER CUP.

    Yes, it’s Angela again.
  • THREE FOR BRIDGEWATER.

Now it’s fingers crossed for the next two.
  • A COUPLE OF TOUGH ONES COMING UP………….

    ………….for some of our Ladies.
  • THE SHOW GOES ON.

Yes, our Ladies have been at it again, but I missed it.
  • MY FEET STILL ACHE………………………….

……………………and I didn’t get any further than the pool stages, but we do have our finalists now.
  • RESULTS w/e 31st May & FIXTURES w/e 14th June 2008.

The “win” word appears distressingly rarely on this posting. Even more distressing is the number of matches cancelled due to rain and waterlogged greens. We could have done with the green time and even more the bar profits. The hint here of course, is for our Members and guests to adopt a more enthusiastic approach to opening their purses and wallets in the region of the bar. I’m willing to do my bit, are you?
  • JUST A QUICKIE………….

Best of luck on Monday Ladies!
  • SHE’S AT IT AGAIN.

If this keeps up I’ll have to create a whole new page just for Angela.
  • TROUBLES AND TRIUMPH ON TUESDAY.

    That’s Tuesday 27th May.
  • AN HONOUR FOR ANGELA……………

………… and of course for the Club.
  • RESULTS w/e 24th May FIXTURES w/e 7th June 2008.

You’ve probably noticed by now my RESULTS/FIXTURES pages only cover “Club” matches, not Members entering County or National competitions as individuals or teams of individuals. So, after our Ladies’ win in their Tuesday friendly, it was a long wait for good news to go on this page.
  • MATCH CANCELLED – SUNDAY 25TH MAY.

Regrettably today’s fixture at home to Wotton-under-Edge has had to be cancelled due to heavy rain, with more on its way. Apologies are offered to all concerned, particularly our guests from Wotton-under-Edge. We do however look forward to visiting you later in the season.
  • STOP PRESS!

Wow, is this ever a beauty.
  • SO HOW WAS YOUR SUNDAY?

I have very mixed feelings about mine. That’s May the 18th.
  • RESULTS w/e 17th May 7 FIXTURES w/e 31st May 2008.

Some ups, some downs, but the laurels belong to our Ladies.
  • A QUICK NEWS FLASH ………….

............in advance of the weeks results.
  • STOP PRESS - HERE’S ANOTHER FOR YOUR DIARIES.

I can now tell you our Ladies play their next round of the Top Club competition on Saturday 17th May at 3.30pm against Yatton, at home on our own green in Keynsham. As always, supporters will be more than welcome.
  • A SUPER SUNDAY FOR OUR LADIES.

11th May was their first round in the National Top Club competition.
  • RESULTS w/e 10th May & FIXTURES w/e 24th May 2008.

A mixture of very good news and some not quite so good; but congratulations to our men on some success in the early rounds of cup competitions and some good starts to our Somerset County League campaigns.
  • WHO’S GOING TO SUPPORT THEM?

Will the clash of fixtures mean a lack of support? Will you make sure it doesn’t?
  • THAT BAC JINX.

The preliminary round of the Clarence Davey Cup had us drawn against BAC, rumoured by many here to hold a jinx over us in both league and cup competitions.
  • KEYNSHAM BOWLING CLUB’S OPEN DAY.

Having read my earlier posting under the heading “Roll-Up, Roll-Up”, you will of course have this in your diary. You haven’t, I’m devastated. My efforts were in vain. Well put it right and click on “read more” now.
  • RESULTS w/e 3rd May 2008 & FIXTURES w/e 17th May 2008.

A poor week for our Ladies and a mixed one for our Men.
  • KEYNSHAM JUNIORS FOR SOMERSET.

    Tom and Callum join Chris.
  • ROLL-UP, ROLL-UP, ALL THE FUN OF THE …………..

Well actually, all the fun of the bowling green. Here’s a golden opportunity to see for yourself why I’m always extolling the joys of bowls.
  • RESULTS w/e 26th April & FIXTURES w/e 10th May.

Perhaps our Ladies could offer our men a tip or two.
  • THAT WENT WELL.

    What did?
  • A NIFTY NINETY.

Another Club Member reaches another milestone.
  • NOT AN OVERSIGHT.

Our men have an extra fixture this week.
  • YOU’VE GOT TO LAUGH.

Now this doesn’t happen to everyone.
  • YOUR FINAL REMINDER.

That’s right. This is your final reminder. So don’t blame me if you miss out.
  • RESULTS w/e 19th April & FIXTURES w/e 3rd May.

Now I can include our first results. OK, it’s not been a brilliant start for our Men, but our Ladies got off to an absolute flyer.
  • FIXTURES WEEK ENDING 26th April 2008.

  • REMEMBERING EVE.

Tuesday 25th March was the anniversary of Eve Chenery’s untimely death whilst on last year’s Continental Bowls Tour. To mark the occasion her daughter Julia presented the Club with a bench in her memory.

  • IN MEMORIUM.

It is with deep regret I post the sad news of the sudden and most unexpected death of Fred Mardles on Friday 1st February. Fred will be sadly missed by many friends in the bowling community, Local Government, the Labour movement, the Trades Union movement and within the local community he served for so many years. Our thoughts are with Pat at this most difficult of times. Fred’s funeral will be at Haycombe, on Friday 15th February at 1.00pm.
  • FESTIVE SEASON UNDER WAY.

Wednesday 5th December, and the Festive Season gets off to a flying start at Keynsham Bowling Club.
  • IT'S A UNIQUE GAME THEY PLAY IN LEWES.

I had always thought there was bowls as we play it here, on a flat green and crown green bowls, then I spent some time in Lewes.
  • ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING 2007.

67 Members gathered in the Clubhouse on the morning of 10th November for our 50th Annual General Meeting. Now open up the full item; it’s not just a boring list of election results and it even includes a suggestion you might like to try in your club. Now there’s a tempter!
  • A QUIZ NIGHT...........

    …………… and an “American Supper”.
  • 2007 - THE CURTAIN COMES DOWN.

Our final game and the curtain came down on another season.
  • APOLOGIES.

Every now and then I go back over my previous postings, just to make sure there are no errors or omissions. Much to my embarrassment I discovered a couple of serious omissions this morning. Some “thanks” that really should have been included. I therefore offer my apologies to those concerned.
  • CLUB TROPHIES 2007.

The finals of our Club tournaments were played out over two Sundays, 19th August and 2nd September. You might like to know who our winners were.
  • CUMBRIA 2007.

The highlight of the season for many of us men was our September tour to Cumbria. That could hold true for those we leave behind as well, six days without us. Get a cup of tea before you read on, it’s a long one.
  • THE ROUND-UP STARTS HERE.

The very thought of attempting a whole season’s round-up in one go fills me with dread, so I’ll start in small doses with the men’s league season.
  • THANKS HAZEL.

Keeping a tradition going; and there’s a picture!
  • BETTER LATE THAN NEVER.

Our ladies’ new tops; and there's a picture!
  • SO CLOSE.

    Further adventures of Angela.
  • SOMEONE DIDN'T READ THE SCRIPT.

I’m sorry there have been no postings lately; I’ve been on tour. So let’s start with the long awaited clash between the “B’s” and the “C’s”.
  • CAPTIONS FROM OUR READERS.

You may recall that within the posting “In Glorious Colour” I had invited you to come up with your own captions for the last photo on the page. Even though no prizes were offered quite a few of you took up the challenge and sent your captions to me. Well, as I said, no prizes on offer, so I’m not embarrassed about announcing the winner without consultation or convening a special Sub-Committee.
  • LADIES v GENTS - Tuesday 14th August.

Sorry no pictures; but we do have a new correspondent.
  • CENTENARY CAPTAIN?

    Could it be Corey?
  • IN GLORIOUS COLOUR.

Yes, our “Red, White & Blue” day was a huge success.
  • ALLSOP - 40!

There won’t be major cash prizes, but here’s a little quiz for you. Can you find three connections between the two, “Allsop” and “40”?
  • "DO YOU REMEMBER...............

I wonder just how many sentences started with those words on Friday night.
  • A GENT FROM KENT.............

…………sent us an e-mail and it’s such a lovely addition to our Golden Jubilee.
  • A GOLDEN DAY.

Sunday 22nd July and the sun shone on our Golden Day.
  • WALLACE AND GROMMET.

There are some really sad people out there. I've been asked to post the full size picture of Wallace and Grommet on their brief visit to the Club on our Men's Triples Day.
  • UNLUCKY FOR SOME.

    Yes, it was Friday 13th.
  • JUST WONDERING.

OK, it’s not news, but I’ve just had a look at the other Somerset Clubs’ websites.
  • BOWLING TO THE BEAT.

Our Men’s Triples Tournament played out to the final two teams with the Keynsham Music Festival providing the background beat.
  • IT'S FREE

    Yes; it’s free!
  • JUST £3!

What is this bargain? Wait and see. This is just a teaser; I'll tell all tomorrow. Posted on 30 Jun 2007 by
  • A BUSY MONTH FOR OUR LADIES.

July brings a very heavy schedule for our lady bowlers, but it also offers excellent opportunities to offer them your support.
  • WELL DONE LADIES.

With Angela exiting the County Over 55 Singles in the semi-finals our interest in the Ladies’ National and County competitions finally expired. Well done, to all the ladies who have represented the Club so well this year.
  • DON'T I FEEL THE FOOL!

It seems the problem was on my PC, but…………
  • WHOOPS!

    What’s happened to our website?
  • WHAT, NO FORUM?

Sorry folks, it's more than I can manage. Some forums take several hours a day just keeping them readable and free of offensive material. If you want to contact us, or feel there is something you want featured on our news page, just click on "editor" and send me a message.
  • WE COULDN'T LOSE.

The beauty of a Club Tournament is, there has to be a Club winner, but sometimes the result has a certain extra appeal.
  • HEARTBROKEN.

Our ladies go out fighting to the last, yes the very last, wood.
  • SHE'S BACK.

After a lengthy period of recovery, Ursula is at last fit to return to the green. Welcome back; we're all delighted to see you getting something out of the Club, after all you've put in as Secretary throughout this frustrating period without a single wood bowled.
  • DIARY DATES FOR EXTREMES.

We do “traditional” very well, one might almost say with style and panache, but given half a chance it’s fish nets and suspenders.
  • CORRECTION.

In my previous posting I made reference to Joan and Angela's progress in the County Over 55's Pairs. This should of course have read the Ladies' County Pairs. My apologies ladies.
  • TURNBULL CUP DREAMS SHATTERED.

In my last posting I said we were looking for another away win on Friday 8th June. The looking was in vain.
  • SOME GOOD NEWS, SOME NOT SO GOOD.

Having been without a land line since 30th March I’m a bit behind with the news, sorry about that. Incidentally that’s the only comment I’ve had from BT! So, if our Ladies produced the good news, who saddled us with the bad?
  • I STAND CORRECTED.

It has been suggested and probably quite correctly, that I did not give enough credit to our ladies’ triples' achievements in my last posting. I do apologise for this and can only plead the excitement of our Turnbull Cup win over Bath got me a little too excited to concentrate properly.
  • JUBILEE JOY OVER CENTENARY BLUES.

With Keynsham celebrating their Golden Jubilee and Bath their Centenary, there was more than usual at stake when the two met on Bath’s green in last night’s (Friday 25th May) Turnbull Cup thriller.
  • TOM PELLS CUP - A MUCH MORE CHEERFUL ITEM.

How I forgot to post this one I do not know, it was such a brilliant day.
  • THE GLOOM DEEPENS.

On Tuesday 22nd May, in perfect weather for bowling and on a superb playing surface at Keynsham, our men slipped quietly out of the Clarence Davey Cup (yes we still call it that) in the first round.
  • IT CAN'T ALL BE GOOD NEWS.

Unlike our success in the Top Club events we have experienced only disappointment in the men’s National 2 X Fours event.
  • THE BIG THREE.

If you’re thinking about the 60’s band, you’re off track.
  • Saturday 19th May - THE BIG ONE!

No, not the FA Cup Final. TOP CLUB DAY FOR KEYNSHAM.
  • WHAT'S NEW THIS SEASON?

Can I cover it all? I doubt it, but I'll try to get the headlines in.
