It is with deep sadness I have to report the passing of one of our own stalwarts, Richard Whittingham, and a stalwart of Bedfordshire bowling, Brian King.

No, not some fantastic win by the Club, but some excellent performances within the Club.

No, it’s not too early to get them in your diaries.

After a weekend that started with our Ladies preparing for their Semi-Final of the Fear Plate and two of our Members preparing for the Quarter/Semi-Finals of the County Open Championship.

OK, it’s a very tenuous claim, but I’m still making it.

With great sadness I have to report the death of one of our former Club Members.
Jeff Naish died peacefully on Sunday 26th July after a period of illness.

It is with deep sadness I have to inform you of the sudden death of Roy Salmon on Monday 25th May.

It’s not really news, but I like to post something over the winter months and this might be of interest to some.

I nearly forgot to post this one and that really wouldn’t do. It’s important to record thanks when they are so deserved.

With bowling or Club news a bit thin on the ground over the winter, I thought I’d try something new this year.

A farewell to David Evans.

The morning of Saturday 8th November saw 69 Club Members assembling in the Clubhouse for this year’s Annual General Meeting and a further 24 had even sent apologies.

But better that than never.

Chairs need setting out too.

Or come to that, outdoor bowlers?

And we thought it was just going to be a quiz night.

It is however an item on how those claiming to be local politicians make decisions that impact on us as a Club. You might like to open this one up; the example is of current interest to many of our members and indeed some of our other readers who are also users of Keynsham Memorial Park.

The end of one trail, but there’s still hope.

Unbelievable; I’ve got a full set. Though it has to be recognised this was a week hit badly by the rain.

………… dropped in on Monday 23rd June on their way back from South Devon for their final game on tour.

Unfortunately in the three big games over the weekend it was two losses and just one win.

Monday 23rd June is the day in question.

Tomorrow, Saturday 21st June, at 10.30am, on our green, it’s a big one. It’s the County Quarter-Final of the National Top Club Competition for ladies, and our ladies take on a strong Bath squad, not an easy task. Come on down and give our ladies the support they deserve. They’ve done the Club and the Town proud in reaching this stage; let's show them how much we appreciate it. We wish our ladies the very best of luck.

I’m sorry I don’t have all the results or all the scores, but if I don’t get this posted soon you won’t see the fixtures in time.

Sunday 15th June may have been labelled Father’s Day by American retailers looking for a boost in a quiet season, but here it has a rather more special meaning.

A few thoughts after Will Farrow’s funeral earlier today.

Having lost patience and given up in disgust with last night’s efforts to post a new RESULTS & FIXTURES page, I thought I’d try and edit out the gremlins in “Cute” this morning. Guess what, it worked. A slow process but it really did work. Who’s a clever boy then? Go back to the previous posting now and open up “read more” to find the results and fixtures in their usual format. Thanks for your patience. You’ve obviously got more than me.

At last some results and fixtures. Sorry about the delay, but I'm still struggling with my new iMAC! I've just checked how this appears when you click on "read more". It's a disaster; all my time spent changing from bold to italics to plain and from black to red and the whole lot came out all the same. To top it all it's not even in my prefered font.

I bet you’ve been missing my usual postings, particularly the Results & Fixtures pages. Sorry, but we’ve just bought an iMAC to replace our old and ailing PC. This was not necessarily the best move we’ve ever made. In fact we’re still out of touch by e-mail. So, it’s fingers crossed, in the hopes I can transfer this “Word” draft through “Cute” onto our website. If it works I hope to bring you up to date with Club news over the next day or so.

The “win” word appears distressingly rarely on this posting. Even more distressing is the number of matches cancelled due to rain and waterlogged greens. We could have done with the green time and even more the bar profits. The hint here of course, is for our Members and guests to adopt a more enthusiastic approach to opening their purses and wallets in the region of the bar. I’m willing to do my bit, are you?

You’ve probably noticed by now my RESULTS/FIXTURES pages only cover “Club” matches, not Members entering County or National competitions as individuals or teams of individuals. So, after our Ladies’ win in their Tuesday friendly, it was a long wait for good news to go on this page.

Regrettably today’s fixture at home to Wotton-under-Edge has had to be cancelled due to heavy rain, with more on its way. Apologies are offered to all concerned, particularly our guests from Wotton-under-Edge. We do however look forward to visiting you later in the season.

Wow, is this ever a beauty.

I have very mixed feelings about mine. That’s May the 18th.

I can now tell you our Ladies play their next round of the Top Club competition on Saturday 17th May at 3.30pm against Yatton, at home on our own green in Keynsham. As always, supporters will be more than welcome.

11th May was their first round in the National Top Club competition.

A mixture of very good news and some not quite so good; but congratulations to our men on some success in the early rounds of cup competitions and some good starts to our Somerset County League campaigns.

Will the clash of fixtures mean a lack of support? Will you make sure it doesn’t?

The preliminary round of the Clarence Davey Cup had us drawn against BAC, rumoured by many here to hold a jinx over us in both league and cup competitions.

Tuesday 25th March was the anniversary of Eve Chenery’s untimely death whilst on last year’s Continental Bowls Tour. To mark the occasion her daughter Julia presented the Club with a bench in her memory.

It is with deep regret I post the sad news of the sudden and most unexpected death of Fred Mardles on Friday 1st February. Fred will be sadly missed by many friends in the bowling community, Local Government, the Labour movement, the Trades Union movement and within the local community he served for so many years. Our thoughts are with Pat at this most difficult of times. Fred’s funeral will be at Haycombe, on Friday 15th February at 1.00pm.

Wednesday 5th December, and the Festive Season gets off to a flying start at Keynsham Bowling Club.

I had always thought there was bowls as we play it here, on a flat green and crown green bowls, then I spent some time in Lewes.

67 Members gathered in the Clubhouse on the morning of 10th November for our 50th Annual General Meeting. Now open up the full item; it’s not just a boring list of election results and it even includes a suggestion you might like to try in your club. Now there’s a tempter!

Our final game and the curtain came down on another season.

Every now and then I go back over my previous postings, just to make sure there are no errors or omissions. Much to my embarrassment I discovered a couple of serious omissions this morning. Some “thanks” that really should have been included. I therefore offer my apologies to those concerned.

The finals of our Club tournaments were played out over two Sundays, 19th August and 2nd September. You might like to know who our winners were.

The highlight of the season for many of us men was our September tour to Cumbria. That could hold true for those we leave behind as well, six days without us. Get a cup of tea before you read on, it’s a long one.

The very thought of attempting a whole season’s round-up in one go fills me with dread, so I’ll start in small doses with the men’s league season.

I’m sorry there have been no postings lately; I’ve been on tour. So let’s start with the long awaited clash between the “B’s” and the “C’s”.

You may recall that within the posting “In Glorious Colour” I had invited you to come up with your own captions for the last photo on the page. Even though no prizes were offered quite a few of you took up the challenge and sent your captions to me. Well, as I said, no prizes on offer, so I’m not embarrassed about announcing the winner without consultation or convening a special Sub-Committee.

July brings a very heavy schedule for our lady bowlers, but it also offers excellent opportunities to offer them your support.

With Angela exiting the County Over 55 Singles in the semi-finals our interest in the Ladies’ National and County competitions finally expired. Well done, to all the ladies who have represented the Club so well this year.

The beauty of a Club Tournament is, there has to be a Club winner, but sometimes the result has a certain extra appeal.

Our ladies go out fighting to the last, yes the very last, wood.

After a lengthy period of recovery, Ursula is at last fit to return to the green. Welcome back; we're all delighted to see you getting something out of the Club, after all you've put in as Secretary throughout this frustrating period without a single wood bowled.

We do “traditional” very well, one might almost say with style and panache, but given half a chance it’s fish nets and suspenders.

In my previous posting I made reference to Joan and Angela's progress in the County Over 55's Pairs. This should of course have read the Ladies' County Pairs. My apologies ladies.

In my last posting I said we were looking for another away win on Friday 8th June. The looking was in vain.

Having been without a land line since 30th March I’m a bit behind with the news, sorry about that. Incidentally that’s the only comment I’ve had from BT! So, if our Ladies produced the good news, who saddled us with the bad?

It has been suggested and probably quite correctly, that I did not give enough credit to our ladies’ triples' achievements in my last posting. I do apologise for this and can only plead the excitement of our Turnbull Cup win over Bath got me a little too excited to concentrate properly.

With Keynsham celebrating their Golden Jubilee and Bath their Centenary, there was more than usual at stake when the two met on Bath’s green in last night’s (Friday 25th May) Turnbull Cup thriller.

How I forgot to post this one I do not know, it was such a brilliant day.

On Tuesday 22nd May, in perfect weather for bowling and on a superb playing surface at Keynsham, our men slipped quietly out of the Clarence Davey Cup (yes we still call it that) in the first round.

Unlike our success in the Top Club events we have experienced only disappointment in the men’s National 2 X Fours event.

If you’re thinking about the 60’s band, you’re off track.
